Cruising in a Speedboat
It was time to step further out of our comfort zone. We’d spent our initial few nights in a pretty plush resort, so we booked a rustic beach bungalow for our next stop.
We decided on a speedboat to cross the Phang Nga Bay over to Krabi. Finley was so excited to board the boat and we set sail weaving through the iconic craggy mountainous islands that dot the Andaman Sea. We stopped along the way at Koh Yao Yai and Koh Yai Noi which was an added bonus.
Fin watched the captain like a hawk for most of the journey, as if he was taking mental notes so that he’d know how to drive a speed boat of his very own some day! Like most people we had met along the way in Thailand so far, the captain took a real shine to Finley and invited him to take the driving seat. Fin nervously accepted, but soon got the hang of it, steering the huge boat through the water at high speed. Such an incredible experience for a little boy… who seems to be an adrenaline junkie in the making!
The day got even more exhilarating. Once we stepped off the boat, it was absolute carnage. Tourists everywhere! We had arrived at the main pier in Ao Nang, the hub for all the boat trips leaving to the islands. We were quickly led to our songthaew taxi transfer (basically a pick up truck with benches in the back) for an open-air ride to take us to our beach bungalow resort. Fin was shouting “wow” every few seconds as we sped through the roads, being chased by hundreds of mopeds! We nervously clung onto Fin, ensuring he was safe, as road safety is definitely different in Thailand to what we are used to!
Safely at our destination, it was time to soak up a very different atmosphere - an idyllic beachside location with the warm hospitality of a local Thai family.
